UPDATE: Rostec picks MegaFon as connection provider at FIFA matches

(Changes headline, lede, second paragraph)

MOSCOW, Feb 3 (PRIME) -- The National Center of Informatization (NCI), a unit of Russian state corporation Rostec, has chosen mobile operator MegaFon as the only provider of wireless and wireline connection services at the 2017–2018 FIFA matches, according to documents released Friday on the Web site of state purchases.

The tender had two bidders, MegaFon and a partnership of wireline operator Rostelecom and Interregional Transit Telecom, known as MTT. The latter’s application was cancelled earlier on Friday as the companies had failed to provide the required documents, which left MegaFon the only contender.

NCI wanted to pick a winner by February 17 with the maximum price of the contract of 4,286 billion rubles, equal to the price offered by the partnership. MegaFon pledged to fulfil the contract for 4.251 billion rubles, value-added tax included, which was the price of the concluded deal.

The contract is valid from March 1 through December 31, 2018.

The FIFA Confederations Cup will be held in four Russian cities on June 17–July 2. The World Cup matches will be organized in 11 cities between June 14 and July 15, 2018.
